Inductive loop cutting involves specific-depth cutting into the road surface to install cables and sensors used to monitor traffic volume and traffic flow, followed by resealing the surface. Inductive loops can detect when traffic passes, identify the type of vehicle and report the volume and speed of traffic.
This data can then be fed into a traffic management system to provide real-time information to highway operators, and in turn may be fed into a Smart City management system or output to road users. Inductive loops can also detect traffic approaching traffic lights to turn signals, and raise/lower barriers.
Traffic GB has all the necessary permits to undertake loop cutting on cycle paths to highways for a variety of different ground loop designs and counting equipment. Every site is installed to latest MCH1540 specifications as required by the Highways Agency and Department of Transport.
Inductive loop cabling, oxidised bitumen, epoxy resin, ducting and cabinets provided are of the highest standard for use in highways environments. Every site installation is fully tested for inductance, continuity and, of course, Q-factor. A fully comprehensive test sheet is completed and signed by a Quality Manager and a copy forwarded to the client. Traffic GB can help no matter how large or small the loop cutting task.
